Getting your Ontario Fishing License

There are several ways by which you can obtain your Ontario fishing license. If you prefer to do things online, the Ministry of Natural Resources offers you the option of providing your outdoor card and fishing license through this website. If you have never been fishing in Ontario and you live in the United States, find out more about the non-resident Ontario fishing license here. The basics are that you need an outdoor card (good for 3 years) and your fishing license. Whenever you go fishing you have to carry both your outdoor card and fishing license tag. You can purchase an 8-day license or an annual license.

You also have the option of purchasing a Protection or a Regular Limit License. The difference between the two is the extent of catch and possession and of course, the cost. There are many different fisheries management areas in Ontario, so know which one you will be fishing in. Your lodge or outfit will be able to tell you. Some lodges sell fishing licenses and some are not sure if you ask. If they do not sell them, many sell to shops throughout the region. Follow the limits of grip and possession and have a great time.

Fortunately, outdoor cards last for three years, so you do not need to get one each year. I also usually buy a three-year fishing license at the same time, so I don't remember buying a new one every year.
